Protecting the rights of students with disabilities and special needs

About My Practice

At the Law Office of Sidney Kraizman, I have a focus on special needs law in Michigan. I help families throughout Michigan navigate through the hurdles of getting the appropriate educational programs and services for their children who may be challenged by a public school system that is not willing to explore or provide the education that their child with specials needs has a right to receive.

I have been helping students get the education they need to live their best life for more than 40 years. I was a special education hearing officer and also a special education state review officer for the Michigan Department of Education. Since 1987, I have been the Chair of the Michigan Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Michigan A.G. Bell) Summer Camp Program.

From 1987-1988, I was the President of the Michigan Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I am a recipient of an award from the national Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (A.G. Bell) for initiating the A.G. Bell award program for pioneering hospitals that began programs of universal newborn hearing screening.

I was one of the state’s leading advocates of universal newborn hearing screening and early hearing detection and intervention programs. I currently am working on proposed legislation for targeted testing for congenital cytomegalovirus of those newborns that fail. An Experienced Negotiator And Litigator Can Make A Significant Difference

It can be frustrating for parents to continually pursue a public education institution to provide programs and services for their students. Sometimes educators do not take parents seriously or find systemic excuses to repeatedly decline fulfilling their duty to students with special needs. This is unacceptable. With the assistance of an experienced special needs attorney to facilitate solutions, parents of students with special needs find that their child can obtain a satisfying and appropriate education. I am also an advocate for students who may not yet be diagnosed with a special need but are frequently subject to disciplinary action or school expulsion.

Protecting children with disabilities and learning challenges, I am ready to pursue settlements and litigation. I represent the child and their parents in obtaining independent education evaluations (IEEs), special education programs and services and accommodations, and at individualized education program (IEP) team meetings, mediation, resolution sessions, and when necessary, at due process hearings. If your child faces disciplinary action or expulsion, I will be there to support you and your child. I can represent you as your attorney in hearings with administrators and the school board.
